G'Day

Hope your all keeping well. Just to let you know Diane & myself are currently training to compete in the Hali 50km in Sept. Basically it's gonna be a relaxing weekend of camping & spending our Saturday cliping through the beautiful Haliburton Highlands. We plan to clip the course in about 10hrs which will limit the stress on the body. The slower pace will also give us plenty of time to take loads of photos of bears, wolves & all the wonderful things that nature has to offer (hopefully Gartorade) The race will also give us a chance to get some mileage on our legs before the Toronto Marathon in October.

Date: Sat. Sept 10, 2011
Start Time:  6:00 a.m.
Time Limit:  50 km (Cut-Off 14 hours)
Course:  75% Trails & 25% forest roads (double out and back)

Hey Bear,

I'd love to do this race. It unfortunately clashes with my road race marathon training. I will be full on into the trails races next year though....hopefully!

T
his a good looking event for next weekend. You can do 14, 28, 42 or 50. We are still up in the air but I'd like to do at least 28. It is a bit less than 3 hours north of Toronto.

Limberlost looks awesome. Let me know what your plans are as I'm thinking of competing in the trail marathon. It'll be a tough ole race as I've probably only clipped about 20km max over the past 6mths but the 10hr cut-off is plenty of time.

Mate am sold - Tis a  weekend of camping, swimming on the lake, barbeques & bonfires - Brilliant!

Bear, we are still debating but we are wanting to do this. Just working on the logistics. Wil be sure to give you a hopller if we sign up.

Although it goes against my schedule, I may just have to throw in the marathon and a long run! Yikes!

Sounds great mate. Running marathon's as part of your training schedule is always a scary thought but at least you get some recognition for your long runs i.e. another marathon medal in tha bag. Diane & myself clipped a strong 30km over the weekend so feeling good for Sat.

Hope to see you guys there

Dave

Thanks for the info. Am really looking forward to clipping the Hali 50k. I've read loads of blogs from last year. Sounds like a fantastic course. Heading up to Algonquin Provincial Park next week for the long weekend to do some distance training on the trails. Should be cool we're gonna camp at Tea Lake.

I have a question to ask. Am currently weighing up either TNF Death Race or TransRockies for Aug 2012. So we have a little problem. Tis gonna be hard to train for a mountain race in Toronto. There's not a mountain in sight!! I need to find some elevation close to the city. Say 2hr radius by car. Is the Blue Mts the best place as I think its about 400m high. Do you know if you can run the ski trails?

BTW - We rego'd for the Run for the Toad 50k. Looks awesome!

The Toad! Nice , we'll see you there tho I will just be clipping the 25k as it's too close to Scotia Marathon fo rme to go too long.

Blue Mt is a long way to go to train but there's not much choice. The Limberlost trail is far too but it would be good.

If you want to just get the hill training in you can go to Kingston Road and Brinley.

But if you want trails and hills combo, you'll have to drive a ways.

G'day

Just a quick update to let you know Diane & myself had a brilliant weekend up in Hali. The 50k was a tough ole race, lots of vertical climbs & descents to test your strength & as always the forest trail will test your concentration to the limits. I had a tough ole time of it after hitting "Tha Wall" about 30k in, so it was a long ole haul to tha finish line. Diane was looking after me so I was in safe hands. Nothing like a woman's touch when ur in a world of pain. I have to say I'm so glad women have kids & not the other way round! Tis probably why some of the best ultra runners on tha planet are women! (",)

My hat goes off to the "100 Milers" i.e. 4 trail marathons under 30hrs!! - Amazing stuff altogether!
